How you file your income taxes can effect how quickly you get your refund. It can also effect the accuracy of your return, paper returns need to be transcribed or scanned into their system, which opens up a possibility for errors or missing pages.
1. USPS Mail
Tax returns are mailed using the post office. If a bank account is supplied the refund is deposited between 6-8 weeks. A refund as a paper check can take longer.
2020 UPDATE- This year the timeline for mailed returns has been delayed exponentially, as a result the refund can be delayed for a long time.
2. Electronic Filing *PREFERRED METHOD BY IRS*
Federal and State Tax Returns are submitted to the electronically. Refunds will be deposited into your bank account in 21-28 days when a bank account number is supplied. Paper check option is available, but direct deposit is faster.
